What is the significance of the location where you chose to meet?
“I’ve been here for about 10 years, and I’ve been in the field of environmental consulting for 32 years…I run our environmental service group, I have fantastic co-workers, we work on great projects. I really enjoy my clients, and I enjoy making brownfield sites safe and useful again and helping revitalize communities.”
What is a favorite memory you have while on the BNRLT board?
“I enjoyed the Cayuga Creek project a great deal. The project included removing the berms on either side of Cayuga Creek, creating a meandering rather that perfectly straight stream channel, re-establishing the Creek’s connection to the floodplain, and developing walking paths. More than 25 years ago, I had completed an environmental sampling program at that property. It was my first field project in Western New York, after I moved back home from New Jersey. I was working for a company that had a contract with the NYSDEC to make sure there wasn’t significant contamination in the area. Fast forward 20 years, we at C&S completed an additional characterization program at the property for Niagara County under a USEPA grant. Witnessing the transformation of the property to something that creates better habitat while relieving downstream flood has been very rewarding. Being able to stay involved with that property for almost three decades and finally seeing the end product has been great.”
What is your favorite outdoor activity?
“Hiking would probably be my #1… I like to hike all over the world. There’s a hike on the Isle of Skye in Scotland called the Quiraing that everyone should walk because it is one of the most magical places on the planet… you’re along the side of a rugged mountain and yet most of it is stunningly green.”
“Connecting with people, sharing stories, listening to music…I mostly listen to progressive rock. I go to progressive rock festivals on progressive rock cruises during which I’ve developed friendships with great people from all over the world…I also listen to a lot of classical guitar”
What brings you joy?
What is your favorite season?
“Fall. I love the sounds and smell of fall. Crisp nights, walking through leaves. The chill air is invigorating.”
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
“If I had Jedi powers that would be pretty awesome…so having the ability to influence others in a good way, tackle problems that need to be fixed, protect others and protect the environment.”
Future projects or anything you’re working on that you want to promote?
“With the land trust, we have so much great stuff going on! It’s to pin it to one thing. I’m really excited about the EPA brownfield inventory and assessment grant because I think that this will help us find our next set of great properties to protect.”
